The Furlex 20S is Seldén's jib furling system for ø3 mm headstays with a maximum luff perpendicular of 2500 mm, available as a complete kit or as individual replacement components including the drum, top swivel and top swivel guide.
How to choose
Start by confirming that the Furlex 20S is the correct system for your boat. It is designed for ø3 mm headstays with a maximum jib luff perpendicular of 2500 mm. If your headstay is a larger diameter or your jib is bigger than this, the Furlex 30S or 40S is the appropriate system. If you are in any doubt about suitability, check with your boat manufacturer or class association before ordering. Fitting a furling system affects standing rigging loads, and using an incorrectly specified system is a safety risk.
If you are fitting a Furlex 20S for the first time or replacing a complete unit, the full kit (539-455-12) is the right starting point. It includes the top swivel, drum and furling line. Note that the kit does not include a forestay wire: the Furlex 20S furls the sail around a dedicated wire connecting drum to top swivel, with a separate wire in front keeping the mast standing when the system is removed.
What's in this collection
The Furlex 20S complete system (539-455-12) suits ø3 mm headstays up to a maximum luff perpendicular of 2500 mm. All structural parts are stainless steel. The drum and cover are glass fibre reinforced polyamide composite for low weight. Double stainless ball bearings in the drum distribute radial load evenly and reduce friction. The line exit fairlead can be orientated to suit the furling line angle on your boat. The top swivel uses low-friction stainless ball bearings to prevent the halyard from twisting.
The Furlex 20S drum (539-455-03R) is the replacement lower swivel and line drum, supplied with furling line. Construction matches the complete system: stainless structural parts, composite drum and cover, double stainless ball bearings and an orientable fairlead.
The Top Swivel, Furlex 20S (539-450-01) is the standard replacement top swivel, using 4 mm ball bearings to minimise friction at the head of the forestay.
The Top Swivel, Furlex 20S with Guide (539-450-02) adds an integrated guide to the standard swivel. The guide separates the sail from the forestay, preventing the forestay from being twisted with the jib luff when furling.
The Top Swivel Guide (539-460-01R) is sold separately for retrofitting to an existing standard top swivel without replacing the swivel itself.
Dinghy class applications
The Furlex 20S is used as standard equipment on a wide range of dinghies. The ø3 mm headstay diameter and 2500 mm maximum luff perpendicular are the key parameters for confirming compatibility. Class rules vary on whether a furling jib is permitted in racing; confirm with your class association before fitting.
