Furlex 30S and 40S Jib Furling Systems and Spare Parts

The Furlex 40S complete jib furling system for ø4 mm headstays with a maximum luff perpendicular of 3000 mm, plus individual Furlex 30S and 40S components including drums, the shared top swivel, halyard swivel and tack attachment fitting.

How to choose

The Furlex 40S is designed for ø4 mm headstays with a maximum jib luff perpendicular of 3000 mm. The Furlex 30S is a higher load version of the 20S suited to larger dinghies and keelboats where the 20S is marginal on load or rope capacity, and shares its top swivel, halyard swivel and tack fitting with the 40S. If you are unsure which system suits your boat, confirm headstay diameter and jib size before ordering.

If you are fitting a Furlex 40S for the first time, the complete kit (539-470-11) is the correct starting point. It includes the top swivel, halyard swivel, drum, tack fitting and furling line. Note that the kit does not include a forestay wire.

If a single component has failed, drums and the top swivel are available individually. The top swivel (539-480-01R) is shared across both the 30S and 40S. The halyard swivel and tack attachment fitting are also shared across both systems.

The tack attachment fitting (539-478-01R) converts the system from a conventional furler to a permanent forestay arrangement where the forestay stays attached to the drum unit and the foresail tack can be disconnected separately. This suits boats where the jib is removed frequently but rig tension must be maintained.

Before fitting, confirm suitability with your boat manufacturer or class association. Fitting a furler affects standing rigging loads and may not be permitted under class rules.

What's in this collection

The Furlex 40S complete system (539-470-11) suits ø4 mm headstays up to a maximum luff perpendicular of 3000 mm. All structural parts are stainless steel with a glass fibre reinforced polyamide composite drum and cover. Double stainless ball bearings in the drum distribute radial load evenly. The tapered top swivel fits narrow forestay angles and uses stainless ball bearings to prevent halyard twist. The kit includes top swivel, halyard swivel, drum, tack fitting and furling line.

The Furlex 30S drum (539-490-01R) is the lower swivel and line drum for the 30S system. The stainless swivel element has 5 mm ball bearings for low friction. The composite drum and cover have an orientable fairlead for correct furling line angle.

The Furlex 40S drum (539-470-01R) is the equivalent lower swivel and line drum for the 40S system, with the same stainless swivel element, 5 mm ball bearings and orientable composite cover.

The top swivel for Furlex 30S/40S (539-480-01R) is shared across both systems. It has a high-strength stainless structure, composite cover and 5 mm stainless steel ball bearings for low friction under high loads.

The halyard swivel for Furlex 30S/40S (539-487-01R) allows the headsail to furl around a tensioned forestay with the forestay wire passing through the centre of the swivel. To hoist, the halyard connects to the HMPE loop and the sail connects to the shackle. To furl, pulling the drum furling line rolls the sail around the forestay.

The tack attachment fitting for Furlex 30S/40S (539-478-01R) converts the system to a permanent forestay type furler where the foresail tack can be disconnected while the forestay remains attached to the drum unit.
