How to choose
The right shackle depends on the application, the load and whether quick release is needed. Standard forged 316 stainless steel shackles suit the majority of dinghy rigging connections. The high-load Duplex 2205 D-shackle is specified for the heaviest applications and for specific Seldén block and furling system fittings. Snap shackles and snap shackle adaptors are for connections that need to be released quickly under load or without tools.
D-shackles are the most common type for rigging. They have a straight gate and suit applications where the load is primarily inline. Bow shackles have a wider, rounded bow that distributes load across a broader surface and suits connections where the load may come from multiple directions or where a block or fitting needs to swivel freely. Key shackles have a longer body suited to connecting two fittings that need some separation.
Choose pin diameter to match the block or fitting you are connecting to. Several shackles in this collection are referenced to specific Seldén blocks: the M4x8x15 mm D-shackle fits BBB30 and BBB40 blocks, and the high-load ø12 mm Duplex D-shackle fits PBB100 blocks and Furlex 404S/E/TD furling systems. Always match the shackle pin to the fitting's specified hole size.
The captive pin variant of the M5 D-shackle prevents the pin from being lost when the shackle is opened, useful in applications where the shackle is operated frequently.
The twisted S-hook is not a shackle in the conventional sense but a quick-attachment clew hook for outhaul systems, passed around the boom and connected to the mainsail clew for easy rigging and de-rigging.

The soft shackle (614-521R) is a ø3 mm Dyneema core loop, 85 mm long, for lightweight temporary attachment of blocks, lines and fittings with a breaking load of 500 kg.
