How to choose
This collection covers the full range of fittings for Seldén dinghy masts. Most fittings are section-specific: they are designed to fit a named Seldén mast section and will not fit others. Before ordering any fitting, identify your mast section. Common Seldén dinghy sections include C, D+, E, Lambda, Kappa, Zeta, Cumulus, Alto, Epsilon, Gamma, 2420 and the carbon S1, S2, S3 and Orbis series. If you are unsure of your section, check the mast label or contact Seldén.
For mast heels, choose the heel type that matches your step installation and halyard routing requirements. Tenon heels are the standard option for most classes, providing a fixed mast foot that locates in the step. Sheave heels add internal sheaves for routing halyards cleanly through the heel: 5-sheave heels suit C and Lambda sections and the heavy-duty Wayfarer E section; 6-sheave heels suit Epsilon, Zeta/Cumulus/Alto, Kappa, D+ and carbon S3 sections. Hinged heels suit boats where the mast is raised and lowered regularly and must be used with the hinged step (510-158-01). The rotating heel suits classes where the mast rotates. Square heels are specific to Mirror/Cadet (fitting 2420 and Lambda sections) and GP14 (fitting Zeta/Cumulus/Alto sections). The catamaran mast step is for rotating catamaran rigs on W143 and W095 sections.
For spreader systems, four types are available. The fully adjustable aluminium system allows angle adjustment from 0 to 35 degrees in 1-degree increments via thumbscrews, with a detent pin to lock the setting. A 40-degree high-sweep version adjusts from 10 to 40 degrees for classes requiring more sweep. Carbon fully adjustable spreaders use the same adjustment system at reduced weight. Vernier adjustable spreaders use clevis pin holes for 0 to 35 degree adjustment in 2-degree steps and suit a wider range of lengths up to 585mm. Bottlescrew and turnbuckle adjustable spreaders are replacements for older Seldén/Proctor systems. Always check class rules before changing spreader length or angle, as these affect shroud geometry and rig loads.
For goosenecks, match the fitting to your mast section and boom type. Composite goosenecks are available for Lambda/Kappa/Zeta/Cumulus/Alto/Epsilon/Gamma and for C/D+/E sections. The stainless steel gooseneck suits Kappa/Zeta/Cumulus/Epsilon/Gamma masts fitted with a gnav. The extended stainless gooseneck moves the pivot point aft to ease outhaul tension and square the boom when running, and fits the same sections. Aluminium goosenecks are available for the rotating mast electron section and the 2120 section. The carbon bracket adaptor suits series 3 carbon masts.
For sheave boxes, choose by application and halyard type. The 21mm composite sheave box suits halyard turning and boom outhaul applications at lower loads. The 35mm jib halyard sheave boxes are rated for wire and HMPE halyards: choose plain bearing composite for standard use, plain bearing aluminium for improved wear, or stainless ball bearing for high-load applications where the halyard is adjusted while sailing. The stainless spinnaker halyard sheave box is a low-profile fitting for high line-speed applications. The stainless XSM bearing jib halyard sheave box is developed specifically for the Fireball, 505 and Flying 15 where extreme rig tensions are used.
For rigging attachment fittings, the choice depends on the attachment method for your standing rigging. The backing plate and T-terminal tang are for T-terminal wire ends. The lower shroud attachment plates are curved to align with the shroud angle, available for T-terminals or shackle/fork ends. The forestay tang is a heavy-duty pressed and welded fitting for forestay and external halyard attachment. The vertical eye triangle base is a cast stainless fitting for shrouds and standing rigging on recreational dinghies. Always confirm with your boat manufacturer or class association before modifying standing rigging attachment points. Seldén T-terminals must only be used with Seldén backing plates — mixing terminal and backing plate brands is a severe safety risk.
Dinghy class applications
The 5-sheave heavy-duty heel (502-639-03) is specifically designed for the Wayfarer class, with an aluminium adapter to resist the bending loads from a tabernacle pin.
The square heel for Mirror and Cadet (502-162-01) fits 2420 and Lambda sections. The square heel for GP14 (502-574-01) fits Zeta, Cumulus and Alto sections.
The ILCA hi-load kicker bracket (508-404-01R) was developed with the ILCA Class Association to replace the traditional pressed kicker fitting on ILCA masts, addressing a known fatigue and cracking issue at that point.
The Kicker/vang Snipe plate (508-486-01) is specifically designed for the Snipe class to provide additional mast stiffness at deck level.
The stainless XSM bearing sheave box (505-092-23) is referenced for the Fireball, 505 and Flying 15 classes where extreme rig tensions require the highest performance halyard sheave.
