Seldén pop rivets in Monel, stainless steel and aluminium for dinghy mast and boom fittings, covering ø3.2 mm, ø4.8 mm and ø6.4 mm diameters in dome head and countersunk versions.
How to choose
The most important decision is matching rivet material to your spar. Stainless steel rivets are specifically designed for carbon spars. When a conventional rivet is pulled up on carbon, the bulbous collapse of the mandrel can crack the surface. Stainless steel rivets collapse flat instead, spreading the load like a washer. If you are riveting onto a carbon mast, boom or fitting, you need the stainless steel variants — not Monel, not aluminium.
For aluminium spars, Monel is the correct choice. Monel is a nickel-copper alloy that resists saltwater corrosion more effectively than stainless steel in prolonged marine exposure. It is the standard rivet material for Seldén aluminium dinghy spars and fittings. Aluminium rivets are available where weight is a priority and the corrosion environment is less demanding.
Once you have the right material, match diameter and length to the fitting being installed. Diameter must correspond to the hole in the fitting. Length must be sufficient to grip the combined thickness of the materials being joined. When in doubt, consult the fitting's installation instructions or contact Seldén.
Head type is the final choice. Dome head is standard for most mast fitting applications. Countersunk is used where the rivet head must sit flush with the surface — typically where a fitting slides over the rivet or where a clean profile is required.
What's in this collection
Stainless steel rivets for carbon spars are available in ø4.8 mm and ø6.4 mm diameters. The ø4.8 mm range covers lengths of 6 mm (167-032), 8.5 mm (167-033) and 11 mm (167-053). The ø6.4 mm option is 12.7 mm long (167-031). All have dome heads and are sold individually.
Monel rivets cover the full range of standard aluminium spar fitting sizes across three diameters. The ø3.2 mm range has a single dome head option at 10.2 mm length (167-010). The ø4.8 mm range includes dome head lengths of 9.9 mm, 12.7 mm, 16.5 mm and 20.3 mm, plus countersunk options at 12.7 mm and 20.3 mm. The ø6.4 mm range covers dome head lengths of 12.7 mm, 17.8 mm and a countersunk option at 14.5 mm and 19.6 mm. Pack sizes vary by product — check individual listings.
